The national flag of Honduras is composed of three equal horizontal stripes. The upper and lower ones are blue and represents the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea respectively. The central stripe is white which represents the land between the ocean and the sea and the peace and prosperity of its people. It contains five blue stars representing the five states of the Central American Union. The middle star among them represents Honduras. The flag has a length and width ratio of 2:1.The flag of Honduras was adopted on January 9, 1866.
