The national flag of Afghanistan consists of three vertical stripes of same size in black, red and green color, running from left to right respectively. In the center of the red stripe is the emblem of Afghanistan in white. The emblem consists of an Arabic religious inscription, a mosque and the two flags attached to the mosque which represent flags of Afghanistan. Surrounding the mosque are sheaves of wheat. The flag’s black color represents the sovereignty; red is a sign of progress and green stands for Islam.The present day Afghanistan flag was introduced in 2002. It has a proportion of 2:3.
