The Flag of Guatemala has light blue vertical stripes on either side with a white band in the center having 'coat of arms' in the middle of it. Resplendent Quetzal, the national bird of Guatemala which signifies freedom and liberty; a parchment scroll bearing the date of Central America's independence from Spain i.e., 15 September 1821; crossed rifles; a bay laurel crown, the symbol for victory; and crossed swords, representing honor are present right at the center of the flag. The weapons in the ‘coat of arms’ symbolize the power of the state to defend its independence. The blue stripes on both sides represent the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea which falls on either side of the country. The white color signifies peace and purity.
