Guruparvas
Guruparvas are celebrated by Sikhs. Hindus also take part in them. These are related to the Sikh gurus. The most important are birthdays of Guru Nanak and Guru Gobind Singh and martyrdom days of Guru Tegh Bahadur and Guru Arjun Dev.
Three days before the event the recitation of Holy Granth Sahib starts in Gurudwaras.
The faithfuls take out processions in the dawn hours singing holy hymns. The singers are offered refreshment and drinks at the road side gates of the houses of the devotees.
Then, the holy book Granth Sahib, placed on a decorated platform bedecked with flowers is taken out in procession with musical bands playing religious music. The faithfuls later converge on Gurudwaras and take part in community lunch.
Some faithfuls organise their own the distribution of sherbat and some eatables on road sides to all passersby.
