Independence Day
15th August, is celebrated as Independence day in our country every year. On this day in 1947, India had gained freedom from the British.
To celebrate Independence day the national flag, Tricolour is hoisted. Then, national anthem is sung while people stand in attention. At some places dramas are staged.
The main function is held at Red Fort, Delhi. The Prime Minister hoists the national flag on its rampart and addresses the nation which is telecast live. Jawahar Lal Nehru was the first Prime Minister to do that on August 15, 1947.
The children attend Independence Day celebration organised by their schools. But who stay home they fly Tricolour kites to celebrate. Thousands of kites dot the skies. The kite and yarn sellers do roaring business. The kids try to cut down each other’s kites. Functions and debates are organised. Sweets are distributed to the poor and orphans. That is the Independence day spirit.
