The South Korea flag was adopted on 25 January 1950. The flag has a white background. In the midpoint there a blue and red yin yang sign depicted, which is encircled by four black ‘trigrams’, one in each angle of the flag. White has a traditional connection with the people of Korea. The symbol in the middle represents the dual personnel of ‘yin’ (blue) and ‘yang’ (red). ‘Yin’ and ‘yang’ are poised opposite each other and sustain a balanced survival by harmonizing contraries like positive as well negative, female and male, day and night. ‘Yin’ denotes the inactive or stagnant form while yang signifies energetic or active mode. The ‘trigrams’ symbolize the component like earth, metal, wood, fire and water.
