The Taiwan flag was adopted on October 28, 1928. It is also known as the ‘white sun in blue sky'. The flag consists of a red background with a blue canton containing a white sun. The white sun on the blue background was the Kuomingtang party flag. The rays of the white sun represents 12 traditional Chinese hours. Each rays of the white sun equalling two hours of a day. The white sun in the blue sky symbolizes progress. Red is a traditional Chinese colour. The red background stands for the Han Chinese race.
