Adopted on January 1, 1801 the flag of United Kingdom is one of the most renowned flags in the world. The background colour is blue and the flag is a combination of three Cross. The St. George's Cross of England, the St. Andrew's Cross of Scotland and the Cross of Saint Patrick, the patron Saint of Ireland. St. George's Cross is red in colour and it is edged in white. The St. George's Cross is placed over the diagonal red cross of Saint Patrick. These two cross are together superimposed on the Saltire of Saint Andrew. The UK flag is popularly called the Union Jack because it represents the union of the three countries of United Kingdom--England, Scotland and Ireland.
